My direct ancestors arrived on the Mayflower in 1620, and are credited with performing the very first Thanksgiving. My maternal 9th great-grandfather was the Separatist William Bradford, my 10th great-grandfather was the Puritan preacher William Brewster. My 13th great-grandfather was a member of the Strangers -- the troublesome Stephen Hopkins. Great-gramp Hopkins had a bit of a rap sheet (including being sentenced to death for leading a mutiny, pre-Plymouth.) :D
Nov. 22 was also the 55th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy. It was my very first "where were you when?" incident and I've been fascinated by it ever since. I'm always a bit melancholy on this date.
