Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!

Took the dogs out into the dog run to relieve them a few minutes ago, only to discover a dead ground squirrel not 2 feet outside the fence around the run. (It's a fence within a fence, confining the dogs to a certain area.) The squirrel was definitely dead, but not visually injured.

The neighbors on the other side of the main fence, about 5 feet from where the squirrel lay, have been sprucing up their back yard for (we think) one of their kids' wedding. A few months ago the dad -- Smokey -- informed us that we had rats and gophers on our property. We knew. It's a semi-rural area -- there are rats, mice, ground squirrels, gophers, skunks, raccoons, coyotes, hawks and corvids in abundance. As long as they stay outside, we're fine with that.

Now I'm worried that the Smokeys are poisoning wildlife to keep them away from their wedding setting. This really steams me, because, for one thing, if that squirrel had made it into the dog run before it died, one of my dogs could have gotten it and eaten it. And died. Hawks and cats would be in danger too.

And, for another thing, I am staunchly against poisoning wildlife for ANY reason. This is so... goddamn, I'm mad.
